Breastfeeding Help
Before the birth of my son I never contemplated trying to breast feed him would be one of the most difficult and demoralising things I would do. After all, from all I’d read, it was supposed to be perfectly natural. When it wasn’t it was devastating. Thankfully, Kate Hale’s warmth and incredible expertise got us through. Her practical, no nonsense approach was effective and empowering. She alleviated the trauma and allowed us to truly enjoy our newborn. For that we will always be grateful. Even before the birth of my second son I was on the phone to book Kate. Again, she was a godsend. Now parents anywhere can benefit from Kate’s help with her Happy Mums Happy Bubs DVD. Her tips are easy to follow through simple explanations and real life demonstrations. Most importantly, they work.

Being a new parent and feeding and caring for a new baby is never quite what you expect no matter how much you read and prepare. To have support and practical advice from an expert is invaluable. I really encourage new mums to get Kate’s help as I know personally what a difference it can make. Even though I work with mothers and babies myself – and had read a lot – when you have your own baby it’s all new. I gained enormously from having Kate’s help with feeding and from her calm and sensible approach to looking after and enjoying my baby. Things she said stayed with me and starting off well with a baby with feeding and settling is an enormous gift. The DVD looks really good and I just think books don’t really give you the confidence and understanding you can gain from an expert in person or through the seeing it in action on the DVD.

I have had the opportunity to experience Kate’s work at both a professional and a personal level. As an obstetrician, I have referred patients to Kate over a number of years and have always received very positive feedback! More recently I had the chance to experience Kate’s services first hand when I had my first baby and had difficulties breastfeeding. Kate’s sensible, practical and non-judgemental advice as well as her kind and caring nature were exactly what I needed. I could not have wished for a better experience. The DVD ‘Happy Mums Happy Bubs’ contains all the great information Kate gives during her visits plus more, and is a great resource to refer back to for reinforcement.

A friend gave me Kate’s DVD when I was encountering breastfeeding difficulties. It is the only DVD of which I am aware that is readily available to new mothers with an actual demonstration on how to correctly latch a baby on and off the breast using a couple of alternative feeding positions.

Being able to watch and re-watch the footage helped me understand where my son and I were going wrong. Reading about breastfeeding in a book is nowhere near as useful as watching the DVD !!

Kate’s DVD is full of useful information about breastfeeding ( e.g. how to manage low supply ) and very clear and concise in its content. It also has a lot handy tips for new mothers, including how to bath, massage and dress an infant. My only regret is not viewing the DVD before our son arrived!!

The first few weeks as a new mother were wonderful but also very challenging. I had so many questions and was getting so many different answers. I was lucky to have Kate’s help during this time and with her wealth of experience and practical advice she gave me the skills and confidence I needed. I found her DVD a fantastic resource that I could refer to any time of day or night. It has a wealth of information on breast-feeding and the practical demonstration on attachment I watched over and over again in those early days.

But it doesn't just cover breast-feeding it also gives advice and demonstrations on things like wrapping, (I swear our bub was a little Houdini), bathing and baby massage which I found invaluable.

We contacted Kate after leaving hospital and having horrible problems with breastfeeding that left me in tears and ready to give up! The elation of having a beautiful new baby was matched with all the emotion and fear of being home on our own struggling with breastfeeding and an unsettled baby.

Kate was an absolute godsend and I would recommend her to anyone and everyone. Her straightforward, common sense approach got us back on track and made me feel not only that I could cope, but that we were able to enjoy the experience of our newborn even more. Not only did she help me with breastfeeding, but gave both my husband and I practical advice, education and support on all aspects of newborn care which we have implemented with ongoing success.

I bought the DVD to consolidate on all the fantastic information that Kate gave us and have not been disappointed. It is a great source of knowledge that has just helped cement everything that Kate went through when she came to our house. I will be getting her back again without doubt in the future. Definitely a happy mum with a happy and contented bub!

When I was pregnant with my first child, a friend of mine told me that she had one very important piece of advice for me for the upcoming arrival of my baby. That advice was “call Kate Hale”.

Before I had even left hospital I had done that. I then had a number of consultations with Kate regarding breastfeeding, settling, bathing, expressing and more. I have never looked back. I started life at home with my daughter in an anxious fog, not sure if I was breastfeeding correctly, not knowing if was settling her appropriately and generally feeling a bit overwhelmed by the whole baby thing!

However, with Kate’s advice and gentle guidance, we got breastfeeding established well and a settled baby who I felt confident caring for. I went on to really enjoy both my baby and breastfeeding and fed my daughter for over 12 months.

I have gone on to have 3 more daughters and have called on Kate for her advice each time. Her professional and personal experience mean that her advice is always spot-on and leaves you feeling a more confident mum, better able to meet your baby’s needs. We affectionately call Kate “Saint Kate” in our house given that she has been our saviour on many occasions and I am sure I would never have had four children had it not been for her help.

There is a lot of contradictory advice regarding babies and breastfeeding and you often hear people saying that you should take one person and listen to their advice. Kate should be everybody’s “one person”. The DVD looks fabulous and covers all the essentials – for anyone who can’t see Kate in person – it is perfect!

I was prepared for breastfeeding to be hard, but I had no idea that feeding difficulties would have such a profound effect on my mental health, self esteem, relationships and my confidence as a mother.

So after it all went terribly wrong the first time, I was determined to overcome my anxieties and give breastfeeding a real go the second time around, but I needed the right support – and thankfully I found Kate Hale.

I’d envisaged a struggle with nipple shields and pumping – both of which I’d unsuccessfully tried the first time – but Kate had me breastfeeding my daughter, without any shields, within minutes of her first visit. I couldn’t believe it. Five months down the track, I still have to pinch myself that I’m actually breastfeeding!

Before my first son was born, I went to the breastfeeding class at the hospital, met their lactation consultant, contacted the breastfeeding association, and had done all sorts of reading, but nothing could prepare me for the stress of having a unsettled, hungry little newborn and not being able to feed him – something I had always hoped would come naturally.
When I first met Kate and she explained her attachment method, I doubted it would work on me because my breasts were different to the woman in Kate’s video, and the diagrams in the books I’d read, but I was willing to give it a go.

It was hard work, but with Kate’s help, my daughter was fully breastfed by week three.

Kate taught me the skills I needed to ensure successful, pain-free attachment and gave me the confidence to believe in myself – and it worked!

Breast is best is what new mums are taught, but what if, for you, and for your baby, breastfeeding is not working? Soon after bringing our first daughter home from hospital, she began a pattern of remaining awake all night, seeking endless feeds.

In a sleep-deprived and somewhat panicked state, my husband and I contacted Kate. After observing my breastfeeding technique and listening to our accounts of our baby's behaviour, Kate gave expert advice that radically changed our newborn parenting experience. Suddenly we had all the right elements in place - feeds incorporated a painless latch, new feeding techniques ensured our baby got the most out of every feed, and we had a more satisfied newborn who could be settled and brought into a pattern of sleeping and eating.

With a more content baby and with much more sleep and confidence, we were able to enjoy the magic of it all, while still functioning as a family. Now with baby number two we have again tapped into Kate's expertise for everything from sleep routines to weight gain to the introduction of solids. Again we are in awe of Kate's ability to find parenting solutions and thankful she can be such a pillar of support to our and so many other families.

We initially contacted Kate looking for help with breastfeeding but found that we had also tapped into an amazing resource; Kate gave us advice on bathing, routines, solids, sleeping, settling, sun cream, travelling, how to prevent mastitis – all the things as first time parents we didn't even realise we didn't know!

Over the past 7 months, Kate has been invaluable. Her advice is always straight-forward and practical, caring and in touch with the needs of all of us, and most importantly, has always worked for us. Kate has taught us the fundamentals of caring for our baby, while building our confidence and self belief in our ability to be the parents that we want to be.

We cannot thank Kate enough for her patience, kindness and help.

I don’t think there are many videos on the market that cover this information in such a clear and professional way. A great video for new mothers or second time mothers who didn’t get it right the first time.

It provides information to help make breast feeding a pleasant experience for both mother and baby and covers bathing, massage and general baby care as well. Kate delivers this information in an informative and practical way providing topics in sections so they can be reviewed over and over again. Well done Kate, I looking forward to seeing the next one.

Kate Hale came highly recommended to me by our GP when my husband and I first found out that we were expecting a baby. Our GP described Kate as an expert lactation consultant and all round "magical baby whisperer". This description perfectly fits Kate and the tremendous support she gave us when we brought our daughter Nora home from hospital.

I started out life as a mother with low milk supply and no real idea of how to set a baby routine. Following our sessions with Kate I now have a plentiful milk supply and have a baby that happily drifts off to bed around the same time every night.

Kate's no nonsense approach was clear and practical. She taught us how to welcome Nora into our family rather than completely changing our schedules to fit in with her routines. As a result we have a contented and happy baby who is an active member of our family.

Skills such as baby bathing and how to functionally go about daily rituals have also been invaluable practically and have encouraged Nora in tummy time as well as her natural love of water.

We will continue to call on Kate as Nora grows and develops as a child.

Thank you, Kate, you have been a fountain of knowledge!

My experience of parenting my two sons in the first days and weeks and months of their lives involved a veritable rollercoaster of emotions ranging from pure elation to major meltdown.

Having Kate’s help during those amazing, challenging, scary times has meant the difference, for me, between coping and not coping. I confidently maintain that I could not have managed without her! Her combination of knowledge, support and care helped me through the challenges I faced, particularly when learning to breastfeed.

Many times I literally ached to give up and turn to bottles and formula but it was Kate that encouraged me to persevere and it was Kate that got me through those early days. It meant I could reach a point where I truly loved breastfeeding and continued doing it beyond the 6 months recommended to me.

Both my husband and I are confident that we have two sons who are amazing sleepers predominantly because of what Kate taught us. Both boys continue to amaze us by the way they are able to settle themselves and need very little from us to get good, long, deep sleeps – the Holy Grail of parenting, no less!

Almost all new parents I speak to agree that there is so much, often contradictory, information given to us from a variety of sources. Kate has sifted through the research and what she has learnt over many years of professional work as well as her own personal experience of mothering and gave me something that made sense to me in my life. Ultimately it meant I was able to approach these life-defining moments feeling largely positive, excited, satisfied and well rested!

I will always be eternally grateful for knowing Kate and having her support and sincerely hope that many other new Mums can enjoy these extraordinary times with their little treasures as much as I was able. I would not hesitate to recommend Kate, (and indeed have done so) to anyone entering the wonderful world of parenting for the first time – and indeed for subsequent babies.

Our twin boys were 8 weeks old when we first met Kate and we were completely out of control.
Kate arrived and calmly assessed our situation and our needs. She helped us settle priorities for the whole family – for our boys and for us.

She was able to give us practical advice on how to manage all aspects of our new life with the boys – feeding, sleeping, routines, and more. Things improved almost immediately.

Since her first visit, we have had regular sessions with Kate, for more advice as the boys have grown – including around their changing sleep patterns, the introduction of solids, the treatment of simple ailments and more. And we plan to keep doing so for the foreseeable future.

Kate clearly has vast experience – including with the particular challenges that twins present – and we have absolutely no hesitation in recommending her services to any family with new babies!

My daughter and I arrived home from hospital in desperate need of remedial breastfeeding classes. During our 5 day stay in hospital, no one who saw us had been able to assist me in latching my daughter to my right breast. As a result, I had one very painful and engorged breast, which I was unable to feed or express from, and was feeling generally overwhelmed and fearful about breastfeeding. Thankfully a friend had recommended that I book visits from Kate before going to hospital, and, to say I am glad I did, is an understatement.

As she left our home that afternoon, my husband and I declared that the visit from Kate was the best money we had spent in a long time. From that day, feeding became easier.

My daughter will be 7 months old in a few days and is still breast fed. Each time I think about expressing milk and giving her a bottle, I conclude that breastfeeding is just easier. In those first few days, I never thought I would feel this way.
Karrie Walsh, mother of newborn, Sydney
